Greetings from Haiti! We thank you for your care and concern for us and the people of Haiti. The massive earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12, 2010 was concentrated in the Port au Prince area. Here in the North, the quake and aftershocks were felt, but little damage was evident in the town of Cap-Haitien, where we live. We are thankful for our own safety and that of our relatives in PAP and Gros Morne, but our hearts go out to the many people who have lost loved ones, homes and property.
We know that the challenge is now to help the people who are suffering and have lost so much. Refugees from PAP are pouring into all parts of Haiti, our area included. We feel our efforts are best focused by helping people who arrive in our area traumatized and displaced. Working through local churches and organizations has always been most effective for us and we will continue to use this approach as we work to bring relief to the earthquake victims.
Disaster Relief
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Living Hope Mission has established a benevolence fund through which donors can help. Your gifts should be written to “Living Hope Mission” with a note for “Disaster Relief.” These gifts will be used to help with medical care, food, water, relocation, and rebuilding of homes and lives. The check should be mailed to:
Living Hope Mission, Inc.
P.O. Box 8696
Naples, FL 34101
LHM will also use its contacts with local health workers to distribute donated medical supplies, sheets, towels and blankets. These donations should be mailed to:
Wilbert and Meg Merzilus
Unit 1015 - LHM
3170 Airmans Dr.
Ft. Pierce, FL 34946
Finally, because of our extensive experience in hosting volunteer teams, LHM plans to be involved in rebuilding efforts—including homes, schools and churches. This cannot begin until the ground is still—we understand this might take a few months. Information on these opportunities will be posted on our web site soon. Thank you again for your care and concern for the people of Haiti and for your partnership with LHM in serving the needy.
